May my children run to me

like they are running home.

May they hear “I love you” so much

that it echoes in their bones.

May they find safety in my arms

before they learn of fear.

May they grow up knowing they are

wanted,

chosen,

enough.

May they never have to heal

from the way I loved them.

Susubeeba,

If I could keep you little forever,

I wouldn’t.

As much as you are a part of me,

you don’t belong to me.

You belong with the wind,

the moon, the stars.

Your heart is going to change the world

and make it a better place.

And, if I’m lucky,

I will be there to watch you do it.

Daddy

My Children

I pour my love into them,

they will never be thirsty.

They will never have to drink from an empty cup,

searching for someone to fill it up.

They will never feel like a burden,

to the ones that should treat them like a treasure.

I kiss the backs of their hands,

loving them is such an honor.

They come before anything else or any other,

it is a privilege to be their father.

“Baaba, Uncle or Daddy?”,she asked me. Leaning half over the front seat. She was so excited too. She wanted to call me Daddy, and I knew it.

My sons, and my other step-kids all called me Abby. With the exception of WAY back. Yeah, kids like me. But Abby wasn’t on her list, was it? That’s fine, Baaba would likely suffice. I know ‘Uncle’ wasn’t on the table, even though it was on her list. ‘Uncle’ didn’t seem appropriate. Too cold, maybe distant. Not to say people can’t have amazing uncles, I did. My Uncle Dennis was like a father to me, almost. But still, a little girl needs her daddy, ya know?
